Millennials want a destination, not an office

The expectation of a seamless experience that has been created by consumer tech is now influencing employee retention and loyalty, as millennials demand the same, intuitive experience in the workplace.

In fact, new research has revealed that 94 per cent of employees believe their workplace would be improved through greater use of technology and 71 per cent said they would welcome a fully automated workplace in the next 10-years.

This enthusiasm outlines a genuine opportunity for employers in crafting a destination for their teams; one that mimics the environment that millennials – in particular – have become accustomed to and one that satisfies expectations.

Traditional working practices, that are underpinned by the classic nine-to-five routine are no longer an attractive look. And, with millennials now the largest generation in the workforce, it’s a vital demographic that companies ought to not only sit up and listen to, but also implement action for, particularly if they are to secure and retain an innovative team.

After all, it’s only natural for a generation that is increasingly spending time online to have the same expectations in the real world. For many, the nine-to-five concept already feels as old-fashioned as floppy-disks, which begs us to ask, what’s the answer?

Companies that embrace digital workplaces tend to be 21 per cent more profitable. Not just because of improved employee wellbeing and productivity, but also because new technologies, like smart, wireless charging, help employers understand their people, and the experiences they have at work, better.

And, it’s not just the employee’s pursuit of happiness that you’ll be satisfying. The return on investment associated with a connected workspace is extremely trackable. The IoT can enable remote management of wireless charging spots at scale and can enrich existing apps and third-party systems with information like hyper-local and usage data through open API and SDKs.

Leveraging this network data will give companies the ability to gain a new level of business intelligence, to drive a real data-driven culture based on facts, instead of predictions and drive transparency within a company. Innovation only happens when value is added. Having a fully connected workforce at your fingertips will give you the opportunity to shape the world around your needs and demands; increasing productivity and making your working day as seamless as possible.

The simple application of cloud-based technology like intelligent, wireless charging, can plug the gap for innovative businesses that are in constant flux, growing and needing to maximise the use of a space to get the most out of their workforce.
