In response to this we are seeing growth in flexible working spaces. London-based Workspace Group has just secured £190 million investment to keep up with the demand for flexible working space while member’s clubs such as WeWork and Soho House are also growing.
Whether in a traditional office or sharing working space, the expectation now exists for a home-away-from-home working environment. Employers and those providing these spaces must create spaces that allow staff to feel included and welcome, whilst also allowing a seamless and productive working experience.
The modern discerning workforce will not tolerate slow connections or difficult to use technology. Spaces must become somewhere where this high dependency and expectation for technology can converge. Going wireless will help cater to demands of the modern workforce, bringing convenience and seamless experience. Consumer expectation is driving the demand to be able to power up simply and easily wherever we are, whenever we want, including at work.
Wireless technology will also allow users to integrate with other technology and devices – from projectors to booking a meeting room and connecting to location-wide servers, printers or even apps to order coffees and lunch from your workstation. Facilities managers will also be able to use micro-location data to see which employees are utilising and optimising accordingly. It may be that semi-private spaces are more appealing than open-plan ones, so facilities managers may be able to create more of those kind of environments.
Far from driving us apart, technology has a significant role to play in building the workplace of the future to bring us closer together. Workplaces can become places of creativity and well-being, with technology enabling this connection and creativity in new and dynamic ways.
